Steel-Making Coal

Steel is essential to modern civilization. It is integral to the production of food, delivery of clean water and provision of housing and transportation. Homes, businesses, vehicles, recreation activities and industries all require steel.

Over the total mine life, the project is expected to produce 0.7 to 1.1 million tonnes of processed coal per year.

Independent studies show 88% of the coal produced will be metallurgical coal suitable for steel-making. A small amount will not meet steel-making specifications and may be used to produce energy.

Steel is made by combining metallurgical or “steel-making” coal with iron ore.
