Over the total mine life, the project is expected to produce 0.7 to 1.1 million tonnes of processed coal per year.
Independent studies show 88% of the coal produced will be metallurgical coal suitable for steel-making. A small amount will not meet steel-making specifications and may be used to produce energy.
Steel is made by combining metallurgical or “steel-making” coal with iron ore.
