First Nations' Engagement

First Nations input will be incorporated into the planning and design of the project. This includes working together to:

  • understand the impact of the proposed project on
    - traditional use of land
    - Aboriginal Rights
    - Aboriginal Title
  • identify training, employment and business opportunities
  • maximize participation in the Environmental Assessment process

The project is committed to developing First Nations employment opportunities. Nine First Nations members have already received employment during exploration and baseline environmental assessments.

First Nations have been involved with the project by participating in:

  • the Opportunities and Concerns Workshop and Mine Site Tour in June and October 2009
  • the drill pad site tour to investigate cultural potential
  • the Archaeological Overview Assessment completed in November 2009
  • the Raven facilitated meeting with the First Nations Environmental Assessment Technical Working Group
  • the formal Community Advisory Group meeting in February 2010
  • drilling, environmental and archaeological baseline work

Cory Frank, of the K’omoks First Nation, started work with the environmental team for the Raven Project about 15 months ago. For more information, click here.
