The Environmental Assessment Process

Protecting the environment

The proposed project requires approval under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act and from the BC Environmental Office to proceed. The provincial review of the project is extensive and considers environmental, social, economic, health, and First Nations interests.

Public review and comment is a key part of the review process. The BC Environmental Office provides at least two opportunities for public comment on the project’s environmental application:

Summer 2010 - Draft “Application Information Requirements” (AIR)

  • The AIR describes the issues the project will address. Comments received by the Raven Project during this 30-day review period will be provided directly to the BC Environmental Assessment Office.

Fall 2010 - “Application for Environmental Certification”

  • Following public review of the draft AIR, the project will submit its application for environmental certification. There will be at least one formal public review and comment period of 45 days.
