More environmental studies underway

With the start of the new year, environmental teams are once again in the field conducting technical and environmental studies that will help minimize or eliminate potential environmental impacts from the project.

The results of these studies will be included in the proposed project’s applications for federal and provincial environmental approval. Environmental assessment applications are comprehensive and take many years to complete.

Although the project is still in the early stages of the environmental assessment process, about 200 people have expressed interest in the close-to-home employment opportunities the project could provide. More than 300 engineers, tradesmen, labourers and heavy-equipment operators will be needed if the project goes ahead, and up to an additional 50 will be needed to meet the needs of transporting coal through Port Alberni.

As we begin 2012, we would like to thank you for your continued interest in the project. Please continue to check the website for project updates. You can call or email us anytime with comments or questions.
