John A Tapics, P.Eng. President & CEO

John Tapics has over 30 years mining and electricity industry experience including four years as President and CEO of the Alberta Balancing Pool and Alberta Electric System Operator and eleven as an Officer of TransAlta Corporation. He has served as a Director of the Coal Association of Canada, the Alberta Chamber of Resources, the Western Electric Power Institute, has been active with the Canadian Electricity Association, and is past Branch Chairman of the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.

James O’Rourke, Chairman

James O’Rourke has over 30 years of experience in mine evaluation, financing, development, operations and marketing in Canada, the United States, South American and the Philippines. Prior to his retirement, Mr. O’Rourke was responsible for the acquisition, evaluation, financing and development of the $140 million Huckleberry open pit copper mine in Northern British Columbia.

Pat Tsuen, Senior Business Manager and Project Developer

Pat Tsuen has over 25 years experience managing power and energy-related projects worldwide, from business identification to project development. He was Vice President of Business Development for the B.C. International Power Group Inc. and Director of Business Development for Westcoast Energy (now part of Spectra EnergyCorp.).

Stephen Ellis, Vice President, Operations

Mr. Ellis began his extensive coal mining career, spanning more than 30 years, in the United Kingdom where he worked both in operational and technical roles in several underground coal mines before locating to Australia in 2006 to Rio Tinto’s Kestrel Mine.  In late 2010, Stephen moved to the Pike River Coal Mine in New Zealand as Production Manager and then as Mine Manager.  Mr. Ellis holds a First Class Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency in the UK and in New Zealand with mutual recognition of these in Australia.  His extensive experience in underground coal mining operations in multiple jurisdictions is a rare commodity.  The Raven Project will be able to draw on his experience and knowledge to build and train a team of other professionals as it moves forward.
